DCLM Daily Manna 2024: DCLM Daily Manna 12 December 2024: Dwell in God’s House
Text: Psalm 27:1-6 (KJV)
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
KEY VERSE: Psalm 27:4
“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.”
Desires are usually revealed in how a person talks and strongly reflects his values and where he stands. An overtly ambitious person who dreams only of success and achievements will only be heard expressing his thoughts and desires at every opportunity. Our words indeed reveal who we are and what we consider important.
Though David was a king with royal privileges, he did not allow all that to obscure his vision of the heavenly glories and treasures. He understood that man’s sojourn here on earth is only temporary and whatever he may possess would not last forever. He desired to have a permanent dwelling in the house of the Lord. This explains why he chose to make the Lord his salvation. It is also the reason he would not fret in the face of the threats and conspiracies of his enemies. Whatever stands or falls, his faith and confidence in God will remain unshaken.
Christians must seek a more permanent relationship with God, like King David. Those who hold the things of this world so close to their hearts will lose sight of the glories of heaven and will not see the need to dwell permanently in the Lord’s house. They build their faith and trust around materialism; hence, they easily collapse when the storms and trials of life arise.
The mighty fortresses man has put up over the ages have been unable to shield him from danger. There is no permanently secure place like the house of the Lord. Believers should centre their desires here. Those who dwell in God’s house are forever secured. No fear will impede their progress or shackle their feet. God’s house grants eternal safety.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Those who hope to dwell with God in heaven must learn to abide with Him on earth.
