DCLM Daily Manna 2023: DCLM Daily Manna 2 April 2023:
Key Verse: “And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.” – (1 Kings 17:24)
17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.
22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.

Dr. Will Mayo was one of the brothers who founded the famous Mayo Clinics in the United States. The hospital is ranked among the best in the world. He claimed to have seen patients that by all standards were dead. “We knew they could not live. But I have seen a minister come to the bedside and do something for them that I could not do, although I had done everything in my professional power, but something touched some immortal spark in them and in defiance of medical knowledge and materialistic common sense, that patient lived!”
The son of the widow, by whom God was sustaining Elijah, took ill and died. Elijah prayed for the dead son and stretched himself upon him. The child revived and was delivered to his mother alive. The woman was now more convinced that Elijah was indeed a prophet, and that the word of God in his mouth “is truth”.
“And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth” (1 Kings 17:24).
This miracle leaves no doubt about the power of God to heal and work miracles in the minds of those who have always claimed that things like these are impossible. Some may, perhaps, doubt whether the child was dead in the first place. Despite the attitude of these gainsayers, the word of God is true. The Bible does not require science to confirm its claims and authenticity, but several scientists in every field, like Dr. Will Mayo have confirmed the truth of the Scriptures over and over again.
The widow too, who was not an Israelite, was convinced that Elijah was a true prophet of God through this miracle. Today, we still have authenticated miracles and divine interventions in the affairs of man through prayers.
One lesson from this incident is the importance of signs and wonders in convincing people to accept the promises of God and believe in Christ. There are churches, who, up till now believe the era of miracles has passed. This is partly because they are not ready to pray and consecrate enough to have the power of God work through them and work for them. Fact is, if we preach a gospel that is not power-packed, some may never believe it.
THOUGHT OF THE DAY: Miracles can cease only when God stops answering prayers.
