Former Senate President, David Mark, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following his appointment as Interim National Chairman of a newly formed opposition coalition operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Mark’s resignation, which took effect on June 27, 2025, comes amid growing internal divisions within the PDP. In a statement, he attributed his decision to the party’s deepening leadership crisis and inability to resolve persistent internal conflicts.
The development is part of a broader opposition realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections. Prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, have united under the ADC platform in a bid to present a strong challenge to the ruling party.
Sources say the interim leadership of the coalition will be officially unveiled at a ceremony in Abuja, with current ADC executives stepping aside to accommodate the new team.
Mark’s defection signals a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, marking the exit of one of the PDP’s founding stalwarts amid mounting efforts to unify the opposition.
