Daily Manna 31 October
KEY VERSE: Revelation 18:4 – “And I heard another voice from heaven saying, Come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins and that ye receive not of her plagues.”
TEXT: Revelation 18:1-8
After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. 2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.”
4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6 Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. 7 In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ 8 Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who [f]judges her.

As God was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot was told to go and bring out any person he wanted delivered before the fire would fall. He went to his sons-in-law and asked them to come out because God was about to destroy the city but he “seemed as one that mocked” (Genesis 19:14). They remained in Sodom and were eventually consumed with the city. The bright angel from heaven in our text announced the fall of Babylon. The city was being judged because she had corrupted all the nations.
Before this, an announcement was made for God’s people to come out of her lest they become partakers of her sins and plagues. The sins of Babylon had reached up to heaven and so, the judgment could no longer be withheld. God warns, “come out from among them, and be ye separate… and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:17,18).
The “unclean thing” is sin. It may be lying, hatred, anger, adultery, fornication, drunkenness, occultism and so on. All that practice such shall not inherit the kingdom of God. As it was in the time of Noah and Lot, the world shall soon experience the mighty hand of God’s judgment. This is the time to come out of Babylon and her evil ways through repentance from sin and faith in Christ and His finished work. The world has neglected God’s overtures of love and mercy for so long. “He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy” (Proverbs 29:1). Escape today for your life.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Don’t partake of the plagues of Babylon, come out.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 28-30
