Daily Manna 25 July
KEY VERSE: “And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.” – (Leviticus 17:7)
TEXT: Leviticus 17:1-7
1. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2. Speak unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them; This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, saying,
3. What man soever there be of the house of Israel, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth it out of the camp,
4. And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD; blood shall be imputed unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people;
5. To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the LORD.
6. And the priest shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar of the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the LORD.
7. And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.

The worship of God must be done in spirit and in truth. It must also follow divinely established principles that are never to be violated since true worship involves reverence to God and submission to His will. On this premise, God insisted that the offering of the children of Israel must be brought and slain in an appointed place in the sanctuary and whoever violated this rule would face a death penalty in the Old Testament dispensation.
God’s demand has not changed. He demands orderliness and compliance in church worship, service and organisation. The holy God would not want any service or worship that demeans His nature and person.
All worshippers of God should be wary of the temptation to follow worldly standards and traditions which Satan and his cohorts are passionately parading about in modern times to deceive and defile God’s children. Recall Apostle Paul’s warning about eating things offered to idols. He said that those things which the gentiles offer in sacrifice, they do so to their idols.
As believers, we have no business with the idols of this world and must not be seen to have any dealings with them and their worshippers. The scriptural counsel to all believers is that we should keep ourselves from idols. God will not spare the idolater from His curse and anger. To keep away from idols, we must avoid fellowship with idolaters and guard our heart diligently. “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen” (1 John 5:21).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: As obedient children, let’s worship God in spirit and in truth.
