Daily Manna 22 January
MEMORY VERSE: Joshua 17:4 – “And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.”
READ: Joshua 17:1-7
1. There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the firstborn of Joseph; to wit, for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead; because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.
2. There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida; these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families.
3. But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters; and these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
4. And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.
5. And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan;
6. Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons; and the rest of Manasseh’s sons had the land of Gilead.
7. And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lieth before Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of Entappuah.

A preacher has been quoted as saying that many believers will be greatly surprised when they eventually get to heaven and see the beautifully wrapped blessings on which their names were written but which, unfortunately, they could not possess before leaving this world because of their failure to pray.
The text centres on the division of the allotment of the land among the children of Manasseh, the first born of Joseph. The five daughters of Zelophehad, one of the great-great grandsons of Manasseh came together to meet Eleazer the priest, Joshua the son of Nun and the princes to demand their right by reminding them of the instruction God had given to Moses concerning the sharing of inheritance in the land (Numbers 27:6-11). Before that time, females were not given inheritance in Israel. It was therefore a great landmark in Israel that their request was graciously granted. They might have lost the great privilege if they had failed to ask.
Those who belong to the family of Christ in this present world through repentance and faith in the blood of Christ will partake of the heavenly inheritance reserved for the saints. Those who neglect to pray for their salvation now stand the risk of forfeiting their inheritance and spending eternity in hell forever.
The action of the daughters of Zelophehad underscores the importance of the prayer of faith by saints. The Bible says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not” (Matthew 7:7, James 4:2). Through prayer, believers can receive all their needs. They can support their leaders, seek righteousness in the land and pray sinners into the Kingdom.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Failure to pray is a great self-injury.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 20-22
