Daily Manna 2 November
KEY VERSE: Luke 9: 6 – “And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.”
TEXT: Luke 9:1-9
Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. 2 He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 3 And He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have two tunics apiece.
4 “Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5 And whoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet as a testimony against them.”
6 So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by Him; and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead, 8 and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again. 9 Herod said, “John I have beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things?” So he sought to see Him.

No soldier goes to the warfront to fight for his fatherland bearing the expenses of his battle gear and other needs. He is supplied all that is necessary for protection and victory before he departs. During hostilities with the enemy, he is constantly assured of the support of the state. The president of his country and top military chiefs visit the warring soldiers to remind them they have the moral backing of the whole land. God does far more for His children when He releases us for the work of the great commission. Seeing that preaching is a bigger battle than physical warfare, the Lord kits us with both physical and spiritual abilities.
In the physical wars, only raw power rests with the soldiers at the battlefield. Authority resides back home with the headquarters. But our Lord vests all “power and authority” in our hands as we go to wrest souls from the devil for Him. Thus armed, we can go fearlessly “through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.” We are invincible as we face all the hosts of hell and their earthly agents. They become “perplexed” as they see and hear of the exploits of miracles of healing and multitudes of sinners forsaking the world and turning to a new Master.
While they wonder, we behold the excitement in heaven for new names entering the Book of Life in addition to our own. We have great joy here in the world as we honour the Lord in fulfilling the great commission. But unspeakable joy awaits us in heaven when we shall see the millions of souls the Lord has employed us to lead into the Kingdom through our prayers, time and money we have set aside for media evangelism, crusades and missionary trips and to support the weak and the persecuted.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Heaven backs the believer as he evangelises day and night.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 33-35
