Daily Manna 16 September
KEY VERSE: “Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.” – (Proverbs 19:2)
TEXT: Proverbs 19:1-9
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
Than one who is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2 Also it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge,
And he sins who hastens with his feet.
3 The foolishness of a man twists his way,
And his heart frets against the Lord.
4 Wealth makes many friends,
But the poor is separated from his friend.
5 A false witness will not go unpunished,
And he who speaks lies will not escape.
6 Many entreat the favor of the nobility,
And every man is a friend to one who gives gifts.
7 All the brothers of the poor hate him;
How much more do his friends go far from him!
He may pursue them with words, yet they abandon him.
8 He who gets [b]wisdom loves his own soul;
He who keeps understanding will find good.
9 A false witness will not go unpunished,
And he who speaks lies shall perish.

It is an aphorism that ignorance is not an excuse in law. It is a terrible thing to be without knowledge, especially the knowledge of God. He is the Giver of all knowledge. The Bible says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom…And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches” (Proverbs 9:10, 24:4).
The passage today unveils sundry lessons. Prominent among them is the fact that it is damning for a person to be destitute of knowledge, particularly the knowledge of God.
Without the right knowledge about our Creator, the Source of all good things, one will continue to wander in the direction of sin and perdition. The heart of such a person will reject God and His word, “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God…” (Romans 8:7).
It is destitution of the word of God that leads people to many carnal and ungodly choices and actions. It makes people to commit all manner of sins such as false witnessing and perjury.
But readiness to acquire the knowledge of God shows wisdom and appreciation of one’s soul and the will of God.
Believers should always strive to study the word of God and listen carefully to the gentle voice of the Spirit with obedience. A believer who is destitute of God’s word may not see the need to urgently carry the gospel to all the nooks and crannies of the society or to invite sinners to church programmes.
Also, lack of readiness to hear and retain the Word makes the sinner to continue to shun the gospel message and to postpone his salvation.Though the world still clings to the wisdom of this age, which eliminates God from their knowledge, sinners must understand that the only true option open to them is to stop rationalising the message of salvation and accept Christ today.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Lack of knowledge is worse than lack of money!
