Daily Manna 14 February
MEMORY VERSE: “But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints.” – (Ephesians 5:3)
READ: Ephesians 5:1-10
1. Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2. And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4. Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient; but rather giving of thanks.
5. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6. Let no man deceive you with vain words; for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord; walk as children of light;
9. For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;
10. Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

A Scandinavian lady going into a partnership with a man was asked why she was not arranging to visit the Registry to formalise the marriage. She replied, “Why do I have to go through all that trouble when I know the union won’t last?” People do not draw the line anymore between what is appropriate or inappropriate in the sight of God. The Bible strictly warns against fornication. Any act of intimacy apart from the marital union is biblically defined as immoral and sinful, and should not be practised among believers in Christ.
The Spirit of God through Apostle Paul warned the Ephesian believers against returning to the past life of sin. One of the sins they were most vulnerable to was fornication and uncleanness. They were told not to do it at all; not even once. They were to avoid other sins like vulgar speech, foolish talk and coarse jests of the comedians because those who practice such will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The heathen lifestyle was a very strong pull, especially to those Ephesian believers who had been involved with the immorality and uncleanliness that accompanied the pagan religion of Diana the goddess of their society.
All acts of uncleanness must be discouraged today in the body of Christ. Every precursor to sin must be detected and deleted. Mature brothers and sisters in the church should be advised to get married through the scriptural channels rather than open the door to temptation through the practice of dating, which often ends in disaster. We are not only to flee from fornication, we also are to detest everything connected with it like masturbation, pornography and immoral relationships.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Others may commit sin; you must not!
