Human rights activist Chetam Nwala has stated that he honoured an invitation from the Rivers State Police Command regarding allegations of defamation of character and cyberstalking levelled against him by a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, Rivers State University, Prof. CC Wigwe.
Nwala, however, disclosed that the police allegedly denied him and his team of lawyers access to the command’s premises, despite his decision to comply with the invitation as a law-abiding citizen.
According to him, the police invitation came even after he had filed a Fundamental Rights Enforcement suit against the Rivers State Police Command, which he said was served on the command on Friday.
“As a law-abiding citizen of this great country, let it be on record that I honoured the invitation of the Nigerian Police despite filing a Fundamental Rights Enforcement against the said police,” Nwala said.
He added that the fundamental rights enforcement suit is scheduled to be heard on Monday, January 20, 2026, at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
“At this point, I shall rely on the decision of the court in the said matter before taking further action,” he stated.
Nwala further maintained that Prof. CC Wigwe could not use the police to intimidate him, insisting that he would pursue the matter strictly within the ambit of the law.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Rivers State Police Command on the claims were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
