The Cross River State House of Assembly has suspended the lawmaker representing Obubra I State Constituency, Dickson Agbor, indefinitely over allegations that he assaulted his wife.
According to journalist Agba Jalingo, the incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, February 28, 2028, at the Assembly quarters following accusations of infidelity.
The suspension was approved on Thursday, March 5, after a motion was moved by Davies Etta and seconded by Francis Bassey Asuquo.
While presenting the motion, Etta condemned the alleged act, describing it as conduct unbecoming of a legislator and inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of members of the legislative arm of government. He stressed that the House must take firm action to safeguard the integrity and public image of the Assembly.
The lawmakers also approved the formation of an ad hoc committee tasked with investigating the allegation and submitting its findings to the House for further legislative action.
Following the resolution, Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms in line with the directive of the House.
Reacting to the development, the Speaker, Elvert Ayambem, said the Assembly remains committed to maintaining discipline, dignity, and the integrity of the legislature.
