The Deputy Governor of Rivers state Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has called on clerics and religious leaders in the state to help the government in sensitising their congregants on the need to obey government directives and observe all COVID-19 prevention protocols.
Dr. Banigo made this known on Tuesday, when members of the Women’s Guild, Diocese of Niger Delta Anglican Communion paid her a courtesy visit at her Lodge in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Banigo who said Christians tend to believe messages emanating from clerics, admonished the women and church leaders to take responsibility by speaking about the virus in their churches to enable people take measures that will help curb its spread.
Dr. Banigo said the State Government under the watch of Governor Wike would continue to work in the interest of the state, describing the war against the pandemic as a “marathon and not a sprint.”
