The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba has threatened to investigate the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital over alleged misappropriation of N950,000,000 covid-19 intervention fund.
The Minister, disclosed this during an unscheduled visit to the hospital last week, after expressing disappointment over the state of the isolation centre.
But, Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Prof. Henry Ugboma in statement on Sunday, denied the allegation, adding that there was no room for misappropriation as the contract was awarded to a reputable firm.
He stated that it was unfortunate the minister, visited when the isolation center was undergoing decontamination in preparation for cases of the new Omicron covid variant.
This, he said was the reason they removed all euipments in the centre to prevent them from getting damaged.
He added that all the necessary equipments, including ventilators and monitors were bought and that the hospital even did more than the money received.
