The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed the deadly COVID-19 Delta variant in Nigeria.
The NCDC, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday. It said the deadly variant was detected in a traveller to Nigeria.
The statement also said the variant has been detected in 90 countries and there are ongoing studies to understand its impact on existing vaccines and therapeutics.
NCDC, stated that it has been working with the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, African Centre for Genomics of Infectious Diseases, to carry out genomic sequencing.
The statement urged residents to be obey all pubic health protocols to prevent a surge in cases, given the high transmissibility of the Delta variant.
