The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has warned staff and patients of the hospital to be careful and protect themselves from the dreaded COVID-19. UCTH also noted that one patient tested positive to the virus and has so far been treated.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Ikpeme A. Ikpeme today.
The CMD who confirmed that the hospital is not unaware of the uncertainties associated with the virus in the state, said it appears the state is not free of the COVID-19. This is judging from the recent discovery.
Ikpeme who confirmed that the hospital has now been approved as an independent test centre by the NCDC, has been in contact with the DG of NCDC, Chikwe Iheakwazu.
Prof. Ikpeme noted that, with the approval, the hospital can now send samples directly to the NCDC accredited laboratories, while the commission assists them in setting up and accrediting their own laboratory. He furthermore confirmed that the hospital will ensure adherence to the COVID-19 protocols, while advising residents to protect themselves from the virus.
Cross River State before now was the only state in the country without the virus, with this development all states in the country, have now recorded cases of COVID-19.
