ABUJA – The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday struck out a N50 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), against the Federal Government.
Justice Inyang Ekwo dismissed the case for lack of diligent prosecution after observing that neither Kanu nor any legal representative appeared in court when the matter was called. The Federal Government was also not represented.
According to the judge, the suit had suffered three adjournments due to absence of legal representation from the parties involved. On the previous hearing date, only the Federal Government had a counsel present, while Kanu’s legal team was absent.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/462/2022, had listed the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Attorney-General of the Federation as first and second defendants
