A High Court in Rivers State has issued an interim injunction halting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South Zonal Congress, initially scheduled for February 22, 2025, in Calabar, Cross River State. The court also restrained the party’s suspended National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dan Orbih, from proceeding with the congress.
Justice G.V. Obomanu, presiding in Port Harcourt, ruled in favor of the claimants after hearing arguments from their counsel, Emeka D.A. Ojoko. The court ordered the PDP, Orbih, and their representatives to cease all preparations for the congress until the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction is heard and determined.
The ruling mandates all parties to maintain the status quo as of February 20, 2025. Additionally, the court granted permission for legal documents to be served on the PDP and Orbih through substituted means, including notices at the party’s South-South Zonal Headquarters in Port Harcourt and publications in a national newspaper.
The case was adjourned to February 28, 2025, for further hearing, putting the party’s internal electoral process in the region on hold and raising concerns about its leadership structure.
