Court Rules in Favour of Rivers State Government Over 400 Hectares of LandA High Court in Port Harcourt has ruled in favour of the Rivers State Government in a land ownership dispute involving 400 hectares of land spanning seven communities in Obio/Akpor and Etche Local Government Areas.
The affected communities include Rumuokwuruchi, Rumuwokerebe, Eneka, Atali, Rumuewhara, Rumunduru, and Igbo-Etche.
Delivering judgment, Justice J. N. Akpughurum dismissed the suit challenging the state’s claim to the land, affirming that the property legally belongs to the Rivers State Government.
Counsel to the state government, Dr. Godson Tanam, who also serves as Deputy Director in the Ministry of Justice, confirmed the ruling and noted that the court imposed a $50,000 cost against the seven communities.
