A Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an order restraining the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies from arresting or harassing human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.
Justice Musa Kakaki granted the interim injunction on Thursday following an application filed by Sowore, who approached the court after reports surfaced that the Lagos Police Command had allegedly declared him wanted over unspecified allegations.
The court specifically barred the security agencies from “harassing, intimidating, threatening with arrest, or declaring the applicant wanted,” pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Speaking after the ruling, Sowore described the court’s decision as a reaffirmation of his confidence in the judiciary, despite mounting public doubts about the nation’s justice system.
