The Federal High Court in Lokoja has issued an interim injunction barring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from receiving or acting on any petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The ruling, delivered on Thursday, March 20, 2025, also prevents INEC from conducting any referendum related to the recall process until a pending Motion on Notice is determined.
The court’s decision followed an ex-parte application for an interim injunction, supported by an affidavit of extreme urgency. The application was filed by Anebe Jacob Ogirima and four other registered voters from Kogi Central Senatorial District. Represented by Smart Nwachimere of West-Idahosa, SAN & Co., the petitioners argued against any recall proceedings at this stage.
The case has been adjourned until May 6, 2025, for the report of service and further proceedings.
