Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed an application by leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Wuse Ward, Federal Capital Territory, seeking to stop Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in party activities over her alleged suspension.
Instead, the court directed the ward leaders—reportedly aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—to formally notify the senator to appear in court and respond to their claims.
In his ruling on Thursday, Justice Lifu emphasized that requests to restrict political participation must be handled with fairness and judicial caution. He noted that justice can only be achieved when both parties are given the opportunity to present their cases.
The court consequently ordered that all legal documents be served on Senator Kingibe to enable her to prepare a defence. The matter has been adjourned to April 20, 2026, for the hearing of all pending applications.
