The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to assemble a team of medical experts to evaluate the health status of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a ruling delivered on Friday, Justice James Omotosho ordered that the medical report be submitted within eight days. He explained that the findings would guide the court in deciding on Kanu’s request to be transferred to the National Hospital, Abuja, for adequate treatment.
The court further instructed the NMA team to inspect the Department of State Services (DSS) medical facility, where Kanu is currently held, to determine if it is equipped to cater to his medical needs.
Kanu is facing a seven-count terrorism-related charge before the court.
