A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of $1,426,175.14 linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Justice Ayokunle Faji issued the ruling on March 6, 2025, after dismissing a motion to overturn an earlier forfeiture order granted in June 2024. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) argued that the funds, traced to Donatone Limited’s Titan Trust Bank account, were proceeds of unlawful activities.
The EFCC’s investigation revealed that the money was funneled through foreign accounts and reintroduced into Nigeria. The court ruled that any claimant must prove the funds were legally acquired. Justice Faji subsequently granted the forfeiture request, handing the sum over to the federal government.
