The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld a 2018 decision by the Federal High Court, which proscribed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and designated it as a terrorist organization.
Delivering judgment on Thursday, a three-member appellate panel unanimously ruled that the federal government acted within the law in banning the group, citing threats to national security and the country’s unity.
Justice Hamma Barka, who delivered the lead judgment, dismissed the appeal filed by IPOB, declaring it without merit and affirming the legality of the proscription order issued by Justice Abdu Kafarati on January 18, 2018.
