The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday, June 16, 2025, sentenced two internet fraudsters, Glory Okwor Ebube and Harrison Uzorchukwu Emmanuel, to 30 months imprisonment each for offences bordering on impersonation and obtaining money under false pretence.
Justice P. I. Ajoku handed down the sentence after the duo pleaded guilty to separate charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate.
Ebube was convicted for impersonating American celebrity Kim Kardashian on Telegram to defraud victims of $2,000, while Emmanuel was found guilty of swindling one Deborah Teaque out of $1,000 under the guise of a fake bitcoin investment.
Prosecution counsel N. A. Dodo and M. Abubakar tendered evidence, including incriminating documents, in support of the charges. Defence lawyers G. M. Chukwu and Dozie Munakwe pleaded for leniency, citing that both convicts were first-time offenders.
Justice Ajoku gave each convict the option of paying a fine of ₦200,000 in lieu of imprisonment and ordered the forfeiture of a Toyota Camry, an iPhone 15 Pro, and an iPhone 16 recovered during their arrest to the federal government. The convicts also swore affidavits of good behaviour.
The EFCC arrested both individuals in April 2025, following intelligence linking them to cyber fraud activities in Port Harcourt.
