A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its planned national convention slated to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, next month.
The interim order followed a suit filed by three party officials — Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP Chairman), Amah Nnanna (Abia PDP Chairman), and Turnah Alabh George (PDP Zonal Secretary, South-South).
In their application, the plaintiffs argued that properly conducted state congresses were not held in 14 states, and urged the court to suspend the planned convention scheduled for November 15–16 pending the conduct of valid congresses in the affected states.
Listed as defendants in the suit are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, National Organising Secretary Umar Bature, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Also joined in the suit are the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; South-East Zonal Chairman, Ali Odefa; and Deputy National Chairman (South-South), Emmanuel Ogidi.
