The Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Maitama on Monday granted bail to former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in the sum of ₦2 billion.
Emefiele is facing an eight-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), bordering on alleged unlawful acquisition of a 753-unit housing estate and the embezzlement of billions of naira through proxy accounts.
According to court filings in suit number CR/350/25, dated May 30, 2025, the EFCC accused Emefiele of conspiring with one Eric Ocheme—who remains at large—to acquire the disputed property and fund it using illicit channels.
The case was adjourned until July 11, 2025, for continuation of trial.
