A State High Court in Port Harcourt has granted bail to four men standing trial for the alleged attempted murder of the leader of the Conscience of the Ogoni People, Gani Topba.
Justice Augusta Chukwu admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with three sureties. The court ruled that one of the sureties must be a government-recognised traditional ruler from Zaakpon community in Khana Local Government Area. Another must be a staff member of Khana LGA not below Grade Level 15, while the third surety is required to own a house in Port Harcourt. The court also directed the defendants to submit their bank details.
The case was adjourned to November 18 for further hearing.
The defendants — Saviour Robbert (alias Timberland), Leesor Kpugisere, Leeka Dele-Manapo, and Deele Akpobari (popularly known as Bob Satan) — are facing a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempted murder, cultism and illegal possession of firearms. They are accused of ambushing Topba on March 12, 2023, in Zaakpon, shooting him multiple times and leaving him unconscious.
