The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed October 31, 2025, for ruling on its jurisdiction in the suit filed by former lawmaker and 2023 Rivers governorship aspirant, Dr. Farah Dagogo, challenging President Bola Tinubu’s power to suspend elected officials during the Emergency Rule in Rivers State.
The case, FHC/PH/CS/50/2025, lists Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (Rtd.) as defendants.
During Friday’s hearing, plaintiff’s counsel, Babafemi Adegbite, argued that the President acted beyond constitutional limits by suspending duly elected officials, urging the court to make a firm declaration to prevent future abuse of power.
Adegbite maintained that the case remains relevant despite the reinstatement of the affected officials, stressing it concerns constitutional integrity and presidential overreach.
Originally filed in Port Harcourt, the case was later transferred to Abuja on the directive of the Attorney General of the Federation.
