The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Chidi J. Lloyd and 20 former local government chairmen in Rivers State, nullifying their bid to retain office.
In the ruling delivered by Justice James Omotosho, the court struck out the case, SUIT No. FHC/ABJ/CS/537/2024, citing the plaintiffs’ lack of locus standi. Lloyd and the former chairmen had sought to extend their tenure, which ended on June 16, 2024, based on an amendment law passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly under Martin Chike Amaewhule.
The court declared the former officials’ claims to tenure extension baseless, emphasizing that they had no legal standing to remain in office.
