A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned to October 13, 2025, a suit challenging President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of a Sole Administrator for Rivers State.
The suit was instituted by a civil society organization, the Initiative for Freedom, Conflict Prevention, and Social Integration, which is also questioning the National Assembly’s approval of the appointment. During proceedings, counsel to the plaintiff, Amegua Lezina, objected to a request for more time by the defence counsel, Hilton Urbah. However, the court granted the extension to allow the defence respond to the affidavits.
The group is also contesting the National Assembly’s oversight of the emergency rule in the state and its passage of the 2025 national budget under the arrangement.
Presiding judge, Justice Muhammad Turaki, ordered that a hearing notice be served on the National Assembly, which was not represented in court. Both matters are scheduled for hearing on October 13, subject to proper service and adoption of processes.
