A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday discharged and acquitted former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, of all money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Delivering the ruling, the court upheld Fayose’s no-case submission, stating that the EFCC failed to establish a prima facie case to warrant the continuation of the trial.
Fayose had been standing trial for several years over allegations of money laundering and fraud linked to his time in office. However, the court found the prosecution’s evidence insufficient to support the charges, bringing the prolonged legal battle to an end.
