A Councillor in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State has allegedly absconded with food items meant for distribution to his constituents to cushion the effects of the coronavirus in the state.
This revelation was made public in a statement issued by the chairperson of the state government taskforce on COVID-19 and secretary to state government, Alhaji Metane Ibrahim.
The SSG who expressed dissatisfaction over the Councillor’s misconduct distanced the state government from the act, which he described as “disgraceful and fraudulent”.
He, thereafter, directed security agents in the state to apprehend the Councillor and ensure appropriate sanction is meted out. He said the state government is undeterred by the action. He also conveyed the state’s resolve to embark on another round of food distribution soon.
