The Democratic Republic of Congo has announced Wednesday as a nationwide public holiday to celebrate its qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The DR Congo national football team secured their spot after defeating Jamaica national football team in the intercontinental playoffs on Wednesday.
This marks the country’s first appearance at the global tournament in 52 years, having last qualified in 1974 when it was known as Zaire.
In a memo released shortly after the victory, the Ministry of Labour directed that the public holiday be observed across the nation.
