As the tenure of Local Government chairmen in Rivers State expires today, the 23 Local Government chairmen in the state have been asked never to contemplate remaining in office. However, This has been met with resistance from the chairmen who vowed to remain in office.
Some political stakeholders in Eleme led by Godspwer Igwe in an interview at the weekend said it was necessary for the chairmen to vacate office in the interest of peace. However, on Thursday, Video of the Eleme LGA chairman threatening people not to come within the premises of the secretariat without clearance have gone viral. The chairman warned that there will be punitive measures against trespassers.
Also, Rivers State Islamic leader and Vice president General, Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs Alhaji Owelebe Uwhor who spoke on the sidelines of the Sallah celebration yesterday solicited for peace in the state.
