Some commercial bus drivers yesterday took to the streets of Ada George and Chinda axis of Obio/Akpor to protest and block the road. This was after one of their colleagues was allegedly stripped and beaten to a pulp by some police officers over his refusal to pay a bribe of N100 for picking up passengers along the road.

According to eye witnesses, the Police officers pounced on the driver after he refused to give them the said amount.

They said the helpless driver called for help, but to no avail as the mobile police officers allegedly used their batons to inflict injuries on him.

The witnesses also said the driver’s vehicle was seriously damaged by the police officers.

Yesterday’s protest led to heavy gridlock in the area, leaving motorists frustrated. The drivers also promised to continue the protest today until the Police hierarchy addresses the situation.
