Former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has criticized the conduct of local government elections under the state’s emergency rule, describing it as “a setback for democracy.”
Speaking on Arise News, Cole argued that it is inappropriate for a sole administrator to oversee local government elections, warning that the move sets a dangerous precedent. He also questioned the planning of the elections, noting that those conducted by the Gov. Fubara were rushed and poorly organized, and expressed concern that similar mistakes are being repeated.
Cole further raised concerns over the state’s current governance, asking why Rivers State appears to be “captured.”
