GOVERNMENT PRESS RELEASE
The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, DSSRS, has declared the Ogugumanga Waterfront Jetty popularly known as Coconut Estate located at Olom Abalama (Oguede) Community, open for business with effect from today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
This decision followed a stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Government Lodge, Bonny, with representatives of the Sand Dealers, Tipper Union, and Scrap Association. The Chairman equally announced that both Coconut Estate and Berger Bypass Jetties are to be operational simultaneously, and all previous restrictions shutting down economic activities at the Coconut Estate waterfront have been lifted with immediate effect.
The Chairman, Amasenibo Pepple emphasized that his intervention was guided by transparency, equity, and the need to foster peace and prosperity in the LGA. He condemned monopoly and segregation in the use of both jetties, stressing that both indigenes and non-indigenes must be allowed equal access to economic opportunities in Bonny.
“All parties must embrace dialogue to sustain peace and ensure fairness in the use of our jetties,” the Chairman stated.
Stakeholders present at the meeting, Mr. Dakuro Pepple, Sand Dealers Chairman; Mr. Baru’a Musa, Scrap Association Chairman; and Mr. Azubuike Pepple, Tipper Union Chairman, all commended the Council Boss for his timely intervention and pledged to uphold the resolutions reached.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairman of Bonny LGA, Hon. Ibinyefagha Renner Alabere; Leader of Bonny Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Tammy Jumbo; Secretary to the Local Government, Engr. Tamunotonye Adolphus Jumbo; Chief of Staff, Mr. Soparagha Jumbo; Chief Protocol Officer, Mrs. Pirinye Kabaka Ehuwa; the Divisional Police Officer, CSP A.A. Chijioke; Councillors of the Bonny Legislative Council; as well as members of the Tipper Union, Sand Dealers Association, and Scrap Dealers.
