The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Ms Yan Yuqing, on Thursday, officially inaugurated the “Window to China” Centre at the University of Port Harcourt, signalling a fresh boost in educational and cultural collaboration between China and Nigeria.
Speaking at the event held on June 12, 2025, Ms Yuqing described the Centre as a strategic platform for fostering cultural exchange, academic cooperation, and mutual understanding between both nations. She noted that the initiative would create opportunities for students, researchers, and faculty in areas such as education, technology, language, and innovation.
“This Centre is not just a physical space but a gateway to learning, dialogue, and deeper engagement between our two countries,” she said.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Owunari Georgewill, praised the launch of the Centre as a visionary step that aligns with the institution’s global outlook. He acknowledged China’s growing influence in international affairs and highlighted the importance of the partnership in broadening the academic and cultural experiences of the university community.
