Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Sir Chidi Lloyd, has directed the immediate restoration of electricity to the Rivers State University (RSU) Emohua Campus and surrounding communities following a prolonged power outage caused by damaged electrical installations.
Lloyd announced the directive during a visit to the campus on Monday, stating that repairs were already in motion even before his arrival. He said the intervention includes restoring power to communities heavily populated by students and the provision of new transformers to stabilize supply.
He also acknowledged concerns about the high cost of accommodation in host communities and promised to meet with landlords and community leaders to standardize rent and prevent exploitation of students.
During an interactive session, Lloyd assured students of improved security arrangements and revealed plans to document all off-campus students and their landlords to enhance safety and accountability.
The Head of Campus, Prof. Hamilton Donald, expressed appreciation for the council chairman’s prompt intervention, adding that the presence of the campus is stimulating growth in the surrounding communities
