PORT HARCOURT — Channels Television reporter Charles Opurum has been released following his arrest and assault by a police officer while covering an anti-emergency rule protest in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Opurum, in a statement confirming his release, said he was tear-gassed and physically assaulted while performing his duties.
“Please, to all those calling to find out if I am out, yes, I am. I was arrested and assaulted by an overzealous policeman at CFC Flyover. However, I have since been released by members of the CP Monitoring Unit. I was also tear-gassed while shooting the whole confrontation,” he posted.
