Easter is a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Typically, Christians all over the world spend Easter attending church services and celebrating in- and outdoors with family and friends.
However, Easter 2020 is unique. Yes, we still get to remember the Lord’s resurrection and spend time with the family. However, all this will be happening amid social distancing – a measure put in place to “flatten the curve” on the spread of the global pandemic, Coronavirus.
The virus originated from Wuhan, China, but has now spread to more than 185 countries in the world including Nigeria. For the first time in about a century, therefore, Christians would have to remain in physical isolation while celebrating Easter.
But, don’t worry, here are a few suggestions on how to still enjoy Easter, while maintaining the guidelines of physical separation.
Dads surprise the family with breakfast in bed!
For Dads who are not sure how to go about making breakfast, we have included a simple guide on how to make the best pancakes in the world. Pancakes can be served with eggs, fruits, cheese, orange juice and tea/coffee. For Dads who do not know how to cook, simple sliced bread and tea will work just fine.
Attend a virtual church service
Since there is restriction on movement and gathering in most parts of the world, an online service offers a sure alternative of not neglecting the assembly of the brethren. If for some reason, you cannot fellowship virtually, you can worship God at home as a family. Some of the Christian devotionals available at elanhub.net can serve as very useful guide. If alone, you can also take a special timeout to pray, while appreciating God for His goodness and mercy this season.
Prepare Easter Lunch and Dinner
Use the opportunity to bond as a family by preparing Easter meals together. For those who are alone, you can call a friend on Skype or Zoom and share recipe secrets. You don’t have to be alone! Not sure what to cook? Try preparing Nigerian Jollof Rice. The video below can function as a guide.
Reach out to family and friends
This Easter reach out to family members and friends via the phone. Call parents, grandparents, extended family members or that long-lost relative and watch their faces light up. You will find real joy in making others happy.
Play Easter games
There are a host of Easter games including Easter Egg Treasure Hunt, The Fox and the Eggs and Easter Egg Rolling Race. You can also decide to play simple board games like LUDO and Scrabble with friends and family.
Finally, Rest.
A good way to end your Easter is to find some time to chill, while watching a movie or reading a book.
