A Catholic priest, Fada Angelo Chidi Unegbu, has expressed support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s stance on addressing what he described as the widespread persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
Trump had recently designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and signaled possible military action to curb what the U.S. government considers ongoing religious killings. The move has sparked sharp debate across Nigeria, with some citizens—mainly Christians—welcoming the decision, while others argue that the nation’s insecurity challenges are not rooted in religion.
Weighing in on the controversy, Fada Angelo, in a statement posted on Facebook on Sunday, said he and other concerned Nigerians had made repeated appeals to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to halt the killings but were ignored.
According to him, Tinubu “has all it takes to stop insecurity and injustice in Nigeria,” yet “humans are slaughtered daily like cows.” He further alleged that while terrorists continue to roam freely, peaceful agitators and protesters are either killed or held in detention by the government.
