Members of a local vigilante group in Alakahia, Rivers State, have apprehended several individuals suspected to be cart pushers for allegedly vandalizing and looting property belonging to Alakahia Primary School.
The suspects were reportedly caught in possession of stolen school items, including ceiling fans, a generator, a signboard, and other equipment believed to have been forcibly removed from the premises.
According to sources, the community security team acted on a tip-off and intercepted the suspects while they were attempting to make away with the items. They were immediately handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities say the incident raises concerns about the vulnerability of public institutions to criminal activities and the need for increased vigilance and security around educational facilities.
The Rivers State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the arrests.
