Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization in Rivers State, Sotonye George has called for stiffer punishment for those involved in illegal oil activity and sea piracy, so as to deter others.
He also called on the Federal government to create more military bases in coastal areas, to put and end to the menace.
Comr. Sotonye who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said such measures must be taken, if sea piracy and oil bunkering must end.
He said the normal practice of military officers parading the area and going back to their base is not yielding results.
He noted that with the soot, nothing is safe in the state anymore, including humans and that it has resulted to many deaths.
Mr Sotonye, also explained that humans were born to live in the environment and if the environment dies like it is happening in the state, no man will survive.
