Former President Muhammadu Buhari exited office without compromising his personal integrity, his spokesperson Mallam Garba Shehu affirmed on Tuesday. Shehu emphasized that no one can claim to have given Buhari a bribe during his tenure.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja ahead of the public launch of his new book, According to The President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience, Shehu also dismissed allegations questioning Buhari’s academic qualifications, attributing them to political maneuvering around the 2015 elections.
On Buhari’s aversion to media interviews, Shehu explained, “Buhari is one of the most voracious readers in Nigeria. He reads all newspapers and requests them every morning. He avoids the media spotlight because he isn’t a showman and prefers his work to speak for itself.”
Shehu further revealed that Buhari is financially broke, stating, “Since Buhari left office, no journalist has contacted me seeking reactions before publication. I now sleep very well.”
The spokesperson’s remarks seek to reinforce Buhari’s reputation for integrity and distance him from persistent political controversies.
