President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally presented a ₦1.481 trillion budget for Rivers State to the National Assembly, following the Supreme Court’s nullification of the state’s 2025 budget.
In a letter read on the Senate floor Thursday, Tinubu said the budget submission is necessitated by the ongoing emergency rule in Rivers State, which has rendered the State Assembly inactive. Under the 1999 Constitution, the National Assembly is mandated to assume legislative duties in such instances.
According to the breakdown, ₦324 billion is allocated for infrastructure, ₦166 billion for health, ₦75.6 billion for education, and ₦31.4 billion for agriculture. The President noted that the agriculture component is projected to create approximately 6,000 jobs.
Tinubu urged lawmakers to expedite the passage of the budget, citing its importance to the state’s stability and development.
