President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured four late Ogoni leaders posthumously with one of Nigeria’s highest national awards.
The President conferred the title of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) on Chief Edward Kobani, Chief Albert Badey, Chief Samuel Orage, and Chief Theophilus Orage, collectively remembered as the “Ogoni Four.”
The recognition comes nearly three decades after their deaths during the struggle for justice and equity in Ogoniland. d is a symbolic gesture of reconciliation and acknowledgement of their sacrifice.
Observers note that the move could mark a significant step in addressing long-standing grievances in Ogoniland and strengthening national unity.
