The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Edo State, bringing an end to the legal battle over the March 2024 governorship election.
In a unanimous judgment delivered on Wednesday, a five-member panel of justices led by Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal dismissed the appeal filed against Okpebholo’s victory for lacking merit.
The apex court affirmed the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, ruling that the petitioners failed to substantiate allegations of electoral malpractice, including non-compliance with electoral guidelines, unlawful votes, and claims that Okpebholo was not validly elected.
