Former Bayelsa State Governor and serving senator, Seriake Dickson, is reportedly set to announce his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday.
The NDC, recently registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is said to be enjoying the backing of Dickson as part of a broader strategy to reposition the opposition in Bayelsa State.
Sources indicate that the move is aimed at mounting a formidable challenge against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, following the recent defection of Governor Douye Diri from the PDP to the APC.
Dickson, who governed Bayelsa State from 2012 to 2020 before moving to the Senate, has remained a key political figure in the state. His expected switch to the NDC signals a significant shift in Bayelsa’s political landscape and could reshape alignments ahead of future elections.
